Gulf CV Format for Pakistanis 2026: UAE and Saudi Guide

Short answer: A CV for Gulf jobs is two pages, single column, and opens with a personal details block carrying a photograph, nationality, date of birth, marital status and a precise visa status line. One Gulf format works across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain. What changes between those countries is attestation, degree equivalency and professional licensing, which you should confirm for your own profession before applying.

Applications to the Gulf fail quietly. There is no rejection letter, so most candidates assume they were not qualified enough and apply again with the same document. In practice the CV is usually missing a block of fields that a Gulf recruiter checks before reading anything else, and a single line about visa status that decides whether an agency can place you at all.

The Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment records the Gulf states as the destination for the large majority of Pakistanis who leave for work each year, so the route is well established. The document is where people lose time.

This guide is the country by country overview. It covers what every Gulf CV needs, how the requirements differ across the six GCC states, how attestation and licensing work, and how to write the visa line. For Saudi Arabia specifically, the section by section layout is in our Saudi Arabia CV format guide.

What does every Gulf CV need?

The structure is effectively the same across the GCC, and one document serves all six countries once these elements are present.

  • A professional photograph. Formal clothing, plain background, head and shoulders.
  • Nationality. Write Pakistani rather than leaving it to be inferred from an address.
  • Date of birth and marital status. Standard fields on Gulf applications, particularly where family accommodation or dependant visas are involved.
  • Visa status, in one precise line. The field agencies filter on first.
  • A phone number in international format, with your country code.
  • A professional summary of three or four lines naming the role, your years of experience and one quantified result.
  • Work experience in reverse chronological order, with one line of context on each Pakistani employer since the name will not be recognised.
  • Education with attestation status, which is the detail most Pakistani applicants leave out.
  • Languages, with your English level stated plainly and Arabic listed if you have any.
  • Certifications with issuing body and validity, especially safety and technical training.

The Gulf Professional CV template carries all of these as labelled fields, which keeps them tidy instead of crowding your summary.

How do requirements differ across the six Gulf countries?

The CV layout does not change. Registration and licensing do, and those are what decide whether you can actually be deployed once an offer is made.

Country Engineers register with Health professionals licensed by Localisation programme
Saudi Arabia Saudi Council of Engineers Saudi Commission for Health Specialties Saudization
United Arab Emirates Society of Engineers UAE and municipality registration DHA, MOHAP or the Abu Dhabi health authority Emiratisation
Qatar UPDA engineer accreditation Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners Qatarization
Kuwait Kuwait Society of Engineers Ministry of Health Kuwait Kuwaitization
Oman Oman Society of Engineers Ministry of Health Oman Omanisation
Bahrain Bahrain Society of Engineers and the national engineer register National Health Regulatory Authority Bahrainisation

Requirements and body names change over time, so confirm the current position for your own profession and destination before you apply rather than relying on a table alone. The practical point for your CV is simpler: if you already hold a Gulf registration, or you have started the process, say so in a line of its own. It is one of the strongest things you can put on the page.

The localisation programmes matter to you indirectly. Because each country sets targets for hiring its own nationals, expatriate hires are made where a clear skills case exists. That is an argument for naming specific technical skills, certifications and registrations rather than describing yourself in general terms.

How do you write the visa status line?

One line, in the personal details block, specific enough that an agency knows what it is dealing with.

  • Weak: “Visa Status: Will discuss”
  • Strong, applying from Pakistan: “Pakistani passport, no Gulf visa currently held, available to join within 30 days of visa issuance”
  • Strong, already in the Gulf: “UAE employment visa, transferable, 30 day notice period”
  • Strong, visa cancelled: “Visa cancelled, currently on visit status, available to join immediately”

Never overstate it. Visa status is verified before an offer is finalised, and a correction at that point costs the offer rather than delaying it.

How does attestation work and where does it go on the CV?

Gulf employers generally require degrees to be attested before a work visa is issued. For Pakistani candidates the route runs through HEC, then the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, then the relevant embassy or consulate, and it takes time.

Several countries additionally require a degree equivalency or a professional licensing step before you can practise, which is separate from attestation and handled by the bodies in the table above.

“BSc Mechanical Engineering, attested by HEC and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. UAE embassy attestation completed. Society of Engineers UAE registration in progress.”

If your documents are already attested, say so. Among otherwise similar candidates, being weeks from deployable rather than months is frequently the deciding factor.

How do you write experience for a Gulf employer?

Quantify, and give context a reader outside Pakistan will not otherwise have. Gulf hiring managers compare candidates from across South Asia and the Middle East, so numbers travel where adjectives do not.

Weak: “Responsible for managing a sales team and achieving targets.”
Strong: “Managed a 14 member sales team across Karachi and Lahore for a national FMCG distributor of roughly 600 staff, growing annual revenue from PKR 180 million to PKR 310 million over two years.”

Two further habits pay off. Match your job title exactly to the wording in the advertisement, because recruitment agencies frequently shortlist on title match before reading further. And keep the currency the work was done in as the primary figure, adding a rough riyal or dirham equivalent in brackets where the number is large.

How do Pakistani candidates actually reach Gulf employers?

There are three routes and they want slightly different things from the same document.

  • Direct applications on company careers pages and the large Gulf portals such as Bayt, GulfTalent and Naukrigulf, plus LinkedIn. These are usually parsed automatically, so formatting discipline matters most here.
  • Licensed overseas employment promoters, registered with the Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment, who recruit on behalf of Gulf companies and normally have their own form alongside your CV. For these the personal details block is not optional, because an incomplete CV is returned for resubmission.
  • Movement within the Gulf, where candidates already on a transferable visa change employer. Here the visa line becomes the central question.

Check any promoter against the Bureau’s licensed list before paying anything, and be cautious of an offer that asks for a fee in exchange for a visa.

Should you use one CV for the whole Gulf?

One Gulf format, yes. One identical file, no. Change the job title line and the summary per application, move the relevant registration to the top of your certifications, and name the destination country in your visa line where it is specific to one.

What you must not do is send your Gulf CV to Canada, Australia, the UK or Europe. Those markets expect the opposite convention, and a photograph, date of birth and marital status can work against you there. Keep separate versions, and for European applications consider the Europass format instead.

What mistakes cost Pakistani applicants Gulf roles?

  • Sending a Western style CV. No photograph, no nationality, no visa status. It reads as incomplete.
  • A vague visa line, or none at all.
  • Saying nothing about attestation, which reads as not started.
  • Unrecognisable employers. One line on size and sector solves it.
  • Duties instead of results, which makes you interchangeable with every other applicant holding your title.
  • A job title that does not match the advertisement. If the posting says Storekeeper, do not write Inventory Management Professional.
  • Two column designed layouts sent into portal uploads, which are the most common parsing failure.
  • Expired certifications left on the CV without being marked as lapsed, particularly safety training.

What changes when you reformat a CV for the Gulf?

  • The CV becomes complete, so a recruiter is not waiting on fields before they can process it.
  • Your availability becomes clear, which is what lets an agency put you forward for a specific vacancy.
  • Your registration and attestation position becomes visible, which is often the difference between two equally qualified candidates.

Gulf CV questions, answered

Is a photograph required on a Gulf CV?

It is expected across the Gulf and its absence is noticed, though some Western managed multinationals in Dubai neither need nor want one. When in doubt include a formal headshot, and leave it off any application going to a North American or European employer.

How long should a Gulf CV be?

Two pages for most professionals, three for senior candidates with a long project record, one page under about five years of experience. Do not shrink the font to force a longer record onto fewer pages.

Do I need Arabic to work in the Gulf?

Not for most professional roles, where English is the working language. Any Arabic you have is still worth one line in the languages section, because it is a genuine differentiator at equal qualification.

Should I include my religion on a Gulf CV?

It is a field on many Gulf application forms and some agencies request it, so the option is there. Including it on the CV itself remains your choice, and a missing optional field will not cost you an application the way a vague visa status will.

Do Gulf employers use automated screening?

Large employers and the major portals parse applications. Keep it single column, avoid tables and text boxes, use conventional headings and send a text based PDF. Our ATS resume format guide covers how to test your own file.

What if I have never worked in the Gulf?

That is the normal starting position for most applicants. State your visa status honestly as applying from Pakistan, give each employer a line of context, and lead on quantified results and named certifications.

Should I put salary expectations on the CV?

No, unless the advertisement asks. If it does, give a range and note whether you are assuming accommodation and transport are included, since Gulf packages are usually quoted as a total.

Is the CV different for Saudi Arabia than for the UAE?

The structure is the same and one Gulf format serves both. What differs is attestation, equivalency and licensing. For Saudi Arabia there is a full walkthrough in our Saudi Arabia resume tips guide.

Next step

Rebuild the top of your CV first. Add the photograph, nationality, date of birth and marital status. Write one precise visa status line. State your attestation position under education and any Gulf registration you hold or have started. Then give every Pakistani employer one line of context, match your job title to the advertisement, and save it as a single column, text based PDF. That is the whole gap between a Pakistani CV and a Gulf one.
